Reflection:
The purpose of the Evaluating an Emerging Technology presentation required the research and recommendation of an emerging technology tool that could be utilized during classroom instruction. For this presentation, I choose vPad: Student Response System. During this assignment, I created a presentation to persuade the staff and administration of my school in the importance of using vPad during instruction or summative and formative assessments. The cost of the emerging technology tool was also included in the presentation.
This artifact indicates my mastery in recommending an emerging technology tool that could benefit my school. The presentation outlined the research of vPads and how the tool could be used in an academic classroom. Based on the school system’s vision for technology, the vPAd presentation meets the policy and procedural needs by offering equal opportunities for all students. Pad, a new software tool for eInstruction, is free to implement and students have access to the software on computers and devices with the Internet. After approval from the administration, the vPad software would meet the needs of the school board budget, due to the free software cost. Following the approval from the board, teachers would have the option to attend a professional learning training to learn about the software. The professional development would outline how to download and use the software and discuss how it could be used during instruction. This would meet the implementation for funding the emerging technology tool.
Completing this artifact helped me to understand how much research and preparation is needed to recommend an emerging technology tool. The appropriate research is needed to ensure that the technology tool is beneficial to the learning of our students. To improve the quality of the artifact, I would choose an emerging technology tool that would require funding. With the implementation depending on funding, I would be able to observe what procedures would need to be followed for the funding to be approved.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted the faculty development. The development of the faculty was impacted by the teacher’s incorporation of the VPad software into their classroom instruction. To assess the impact, the teachers will be provided a survey after the professional development. The survey will ask the teachers to rate the software and give their opinion of using the software during their classroom instruction. The survey will determine if more professional development is needed in the future.
