3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure. (PSC 3.6/ISTE 3f)
Artifact: Evaluating Emerging Technologies Project (ITEC 7445)
Reflection:
The Evaluating an Emerging Technology presentation demonstrates my ability to collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools that are accurate, suitable, and compatible with the school technology infrastructure. For this presentation, I choose vPad: Student Response System. The presentation was presented to the staff and administration of my school. During the presentation, the importance of using vPad during instruction or summative and formative assessments was relayed to the staff and administration. The cost of the emerging technology tool was also included in the presentation.
This artifact indicates my mastery in recommending an emerging technology tool that would be accurate, suitable, and compatible for the school. The artifact also exhibits collaboration between the staff and administration when selecting and evaluating digital tools. Thos tool is accurate and compatible for Williams because teachers are able to use the software free of charge and aid during classroom instruction when students complete formative and summative assessments. During the presentation, the teachers and administration are able to ask questions about the digital tool.
This artifact revealed what happens when collaborating with the entire faculty. In the past, I have collaborated with a small group and worked as a team. This was a different experience having to listen to the opinions of all the teachers and administration of the school. To improve the quality of the artifact, I would choose an emerging technology tool that would require funding. With the implementation depending on funding, I would be able to observe what procedures would need to be followed for the funding to be approved.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted the faculty development. The development of the faculty was impacted by the response of the faculty given during the presentation. To assess the impact, the teachers will provide input on the software after implementation. The input will be provided in an anonymous survey provided to every teacher in the school.
