2.7 Assessment
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure student learning and technology literacy, including the use of digital assessment tools and resources. (PSC 2.7/ISTE 2g)
Artifact: Data Inventory (ITEC 7305)
Reflection:
The Data Inventory was completed to demonstrate my ability to model and facilitate the effective use of summative assessments. The assessment results were then used to measure the student learning and technology literacy through the use of digital resources. The Data Inventory was created based on the data that is collected for Williams Middle School from summative assessments. The summative assessments taken by students at Williams is the CRCT and ACCESS testing for ELL students, For the assessments, I had to list who had accessibility to the scores, current data use, and possibilities for more effective uses. The inventory also included the identification of other student-level information collected by the school and a data wish list. My contributions for this artifact is the research to determine which assessments are used for data collection and writing of the Data Inventory.
This artifact demonstrates mastery by demonstrating how the data for summative assessments can be modeled and facilitated to measure the learning of the student and digital resources to measure technology literacy. The Data Inventory artifact provides a list of the summative assessments used for data to measure the student’s learning. The data for CRCT and ACCESS are used to determine the academic level placement for the following school year and whether the ELL student can test out of the EL program. The data is stored on Infinite Campus. Infinite Campus is a digital website which houses the current student, grades, and test information for all students in Colquitt County. Infinite Campus is accessible for all teachers and administration.
Through the implementation of this artifact, I learned that artifact needs to include diagnostic and formative assessments to measure student learning. These assessments are used in many classes at Williams Middle School, but the data is not collected for the school use. To improve the quality of this artifact, I would add the use of diagnostic and formative assessments to the inventory and use the data to compare students across content grade level.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted the school involvement. The school involvement was impacted through the lack of assessments used to gather data. The school needs to include more form of assessments to measure student learning for the impact of this artifact to be assessed.
