Artifact: Literature Review (EDRS 8000)
Reflection:
The Literature Review was completed for the first part of my research paper. To begin the literature review, I chose a topic. The topic was Assisted Technology in the Math Classroom: Does the Classworks program increase standardized test scores? During the process, I researched peer-reviewed articles on assisted technology in math classrooms. The research produced 16 articles. The articles were divided into subgroups based on the topic and helped to form how the literature review would be written. After placing the articles into subgroups, only 10 articles became useful. The next step was reading the articles. The articles allowed me to begin writing my introduction and literature review. The contributions for this artifact included researching peer-reviewed articles and writing the introduction and literature review.
This artifact demonstrates mastery by showing my ability to research for information on assistive technology in the math classroom. The research allows me to grow in my knowledge and skills of current technologies. By reading the articles and searching for information that would be useful, I was able to apply my prior knowledge to improve professional practice. The articles offered many techniques that related to increasing student achievement with the use of assistive technology.
Through the implementation of this artifact, I learned that there are many types of assistive technologies that can be used in a math classroom. Several articles mentioned the use of computer programs and different types of calculators. To improve this artifact, I would locate other articles that discuss the Classworks program. The Classworks program is a computer software program at is used for remediation during a math skills class.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted the learning of the students. The articles provided me with different assistive technology devices to use in my classroom. These devices will aid in increasing student achievement. The impact of this artifact will be assessed through the student’s CRCT scores increasing with the use of assistive technology.
