3.3 Online & Blended Learning
Candidates develop, model, and facilitate the use of online and blended learning, digital content, and learning networks to support and extend student learning and expand opportunities and choices for professional learning for teachers and administrators. (PSC 3.3/ISTE 3c)
Artifact: WebQuest (ITEC 7445)
Reflection:
The Multimedia Design Project/ WebQuest were created to demonstrate the ability of the teacher to develop, model, and facilitate a lesson using online and blended learning. For this artifact, the students completed a WebQuest. The WebQuest was created through Zunal. The WebQuest provides the students with a real-world situation. For this task, the students are going to plan a surprise birthday party for their best friend. A budget for decorations is provided and the students must research websites to obtain prices for the needed decoration items. The contributions for this artifact included creating the lesson, locating websites and developing the WebQuest to guide students through the multimedia design project. The students are shown an example of the layout of the building where the party will be held. They are also given a list of websites to search when finding the prices for the decorations.
This artifact demonstrates mastery by showing the teacher’s ability to develop, model, and facilitate the student’s learning experience using online and blended learning. The WebQuest is developed online using the digital tool, Zunal. Zunal is a website used to create WebQuests. The websites is easy to navigate and offers tutorials for teachers to follow. Zunal allows for websites and documents to be linked to the WebQuest for students to use during the completion of the project. Zunal is online and allows the teachers to modify the WebQuest while away from school. Students are also able to view the WebQuest and resources away from school, allowing for the project to be completed independently. The tutorial also provides teachers with a model to follow. This tutorial is beneficial to use during a professional learning opportunity. The teacher can model and facilitate the online learning example during the completion of the project by the students or during the professional development. The professional development was offered to the math teachers during a common math meeting. The math teachers were then asked to deliver to information to the other teachers on their teams.
Through the implementation of this artifact, I learned that the online learning tool, Zunal, is easy for all teachers to use after following the tutorial. To improve this artifact, I could create more WebQuests using Zunal for the math teachers in the professional development to view. I would incorporate other academic subjects besides math. This would allows all content teachers to view a completed example that relates to the subject they teach.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted the faculty development. The faculty development was impacted through the completion of the professional development on creating WebQuest using Zunal. The teachers were able to follow a detailed explanation to create a WebQuest and view a WebQuest that was implemented in my classroom. The impact was assessed through the completion of the professional development. Following the professional development, the math teachers were sent a survey to record what other teachers thought about the online program, Zunal, during their redelivery.
