2.6 Instructional Design
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of research-based best practices in instructional design when designing and developing digital tools, resources, and technology-enhanced learning experiences. (PSC 2.6/ISTE 2f)
Artifact: Internet Lesson Plan (ITEC 7430)
Reflection:
The Internet Lesson Plan was displays my ability to model and facilitate the use of research-based best practices in instructional design. For this artifact, the students explored proportional relationships through QR codes, and created a presentation about proportions and unit rates using Web 2.0 tools and Edmodo. The contributions for this artifact included developing the lesson plan and creating the lesson. For this artifact, the videos and websites researched and linked to QR codes. The websites and videos presented the students with many examples on proportions and unit rates. Using the examples, the students worked in groups to write and produce a song about proportions and unit rates. Each group was shown an example of a song or rap written from a math concept. The students recorded their song in Audacity, created a music video, and uploaded the final project to Edmodo.
This artifact demonstrates mastery through the modeling and facilitation of an instructional design activity while incorporating research-based best practices. According to Rea (2010), one of the best practices in instructional design is making sure you relate the content to the students’ specific needs. The Internet Lesson Plan is developed based on the ratio and proportions content standards and the NETS-S. From the standards, the activity was created to aid in the student’s understanding of proportions and unit rates.
Through the implementation of this artifact, I learned that this learning experience included too many state and technology standards. For the time limited of this activity, the Lesson Plan needs to be completed based on each standard. The students seemed overwhelmed with having to incorporate all the standards into the activity.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted the students’ learning. The students’ learning was impacted through the students being able to learn about proportions and unit rates. The impact was assessed through the completion of the project. To complete the project, the student’s should incorporate the correct content into the final song and video. The content should have correct examples and meaning of the vocabulary.
