4.3 Diversity, Cultural Understanding & Global Awareness

Artifact: Diversity Blog Post (ITEC 7430)
Reflection:
The Diversity Blog Entry was completed to demonstrate my ability to model and facilitate diverse student needs, enhance cultural understanding, and increase global awareness through the use of digital tools and resources. For this artifact, I wrote a blog on diversity in the classroom. The blog was written based on how classrooms can offer diversity in all content areas to meet all students’ needs. The contributions for this artifact included the writing of the blog and locating resources for math and social studies that will offer diversity.
This artifact demonstrates mastery by showing the teacher’s ability to model and facilitate diverse student needs, enhance cultural understanding, and increase global awareness through the use of digital tools and resources. The teacher was able to model and facilitate cultural understanding and global awareness by showing students the social studies resources of Kotel Cam and Africam. These resources offer students a live view of a wall in Jerusalem and African animals.The needs of diverse students were modeled and facilitated through the use of more examples in math in order to differentiate the lesson. In math students are also able to blog to determine how other regions on the world learn.
Through the implementation of this artifact, I learned that all students need different resources to meet their diverse needs. Some students need resources for cultural and global awareness, while others need resources to meet the student’s diverse learning needs. To meet the global and cultural needs the students viewed Kotel Cam and African. The learning needs of students were met through remediation and differentiation of the content material. To improve this artifact, I would offer more resources to all students and explain how the resources can meet the diverse needs of all students.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted the learning of the students. The learning was impacted through the use of resources to meet the diverse student needs, enhance cultural understanding, and increase global awareness. The students were taught based ont heir learning level and offered differentiation of the content. The cultural and global needs were met through the students viewing live webcams of other regions around the world. The impact was assessed by each student being able to understand how the resource aided in the understanding of learning, culture, and global awareness.
