5.3 Program Evaluation
Candidates design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning. (PSC 5.3/ISTE 4c)
Artifact: Action and Evaluation Plan (ITEC 7410)
Reflection:
The Action and Evaluation Plan was written based on four goals. The goals were written for skilled teachers, instructional use, professional development, and a shared vision. Each goal included a success indication and evaluation method along with strategies, timeline, budget, and people responsible for implementing the strategies. The contributions for this artifact included writing the goals and determining the strategies, timeline, budget, and people responsible for meeting each goal.
This artifact demonstrates mastery by showing how programs can be designed and implemented to deepen content knowledge of teachers and increase student learning using professional development. The content knowledge of teachers can be enhanced by the use of technology standards into their lesson plans and instruction. The first goal in the Action and Evaluation Plan offers professional development to all teachers. The professional development illustrates to teachers how the technology standards need to be included when planning for classroom instruction. Following the professional development, the department heads from each content area will meet with all teachers to determine if they are using the technology standards in their lesson plans. Student learning is focused on in the second goal. The goal asks teachers to use technology to improve higher-level thinking and collaboration with students. To implement this goal, the teachers will have to attend a 1 day professional development that focuses on prompting student’s higher-level thinking and collaboration using technology. The teachers will be observed following the professional development to ensure that the teachers are using the techniques. The observation can also be observed during walkthroughs or TKES observations.
Through the implementation of this artifact, I learned that some teachers will not want to attend the professional developments to improve the use of technology to meet the goals. To improve this artifact, I would offer several professional development opportunities during planning time. The professional developments will be discussed during content planning meeting. This will allow teachers of the same subject to discuss how the goals can be met in specific areas.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted the development of the faculty. The faculty development was impacted through the faculty members being able to use the suggested strategies to meet the goals. The impact was assessed by providing a survey. The survey will ask the faculty members how they plan to use the professional development opportunities to increase content knowledge and student learning.
